Budget-friendly apartments

We have 358 HUD-subsidized apartments available to rent for individuals 62+ (head of household). Other family members welcome. Kavod Senior Life is open to all community members who qualify regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or familial status. 

Details:

      • Apartment sizes range between 373 (studio) and 573 square feet (one bedroom).

      • Residents are obligated to participate in a meal program, which includes six meals each week (dinner M-F and brunch on Sunday). A subsidy is available, exemptions are considered and USDA-SNAP benefits will soon be accepted.

      • Rents are calculated based on an applicant’s total adjusted income.

      • Rent pricing covers utilities including electricity, AC/heat, water, and Wi-Fi.

    • Applications will be processed in the order they are received.

    It is free to apply for housing and to be added to the waitlist. You will not be asked to pay any money until you have signed your lease and receive possession of an apartment. At that time, you will be required to pay for the rent, security deposit, and dining services program (unless exempted).

    Kavod’s affordable apartments are subsidized through HUD based on all forms of income.

    No, only one application is required to apply for a subsidized/afforable apartment at Kavod Senior Life. You must qualify for tenancy, and subsidy, based on Kavod Resident Selection Plan. Kavod is a Project Based Section 8 subsidized property.

    Yes, the meal program is one of our required services. The current monthly cost per resident is $270. A meal subsidy may be available to individuals who qualify (exemptions are considered and USDA-SNAP benefits will soon be accepted). We find that the meal program is an important service in helping residents remain independent for as long as possible.

    Kavod also offers a wonderful Assisted Living that provides assistance with medication and all the activities of daily living, as well as 3 meals each day. Contact our Leasing Coordinator for further details or visit our Assisted Living page.

    No, Kavod only offers one bedroom and studio apartments.

    No, all Kavod affordable housing and assisted living apartments are unfurnished.

    Apartments are leased to applicants on a first come, first serve basis. If an applicant does not accept an apartment when offered, their name is removed from the top of the waiting list and the applicant must reapply.

    Rent for Kavod Affordable Housing is based on a number of factors including income, assets and various eligible medical expenses. The information you provide is then verified by a third party to determine eligibility for the HUD subsidy program and the amount of the rent. Information obtained is strictly confidential and your privacy is carefully guarded.

    No. We pride ourselves on being a community that is open to all, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, familial status or sexual orientation.

    We are governed by state and federal fair housing law which prohibits us from giving preferential treatment to any individual. Kavod has a statutory preference for applicants displaced due to government action or presidentially declared disasters such as Hurricane Sandy. Existing Kavod residents requesting transfers are also given preference on the waiting list.

    Kavod does have limited on-site parking for residents. There is a waiting list that residents can add their name to upon move in.
